Choosing Linen for 3 to 5 Star Hotels

A practical framework for balancing guest feel, operational durability, brand standards and lifecycle cost.

Star level alone is not enough to select hotel linen. Two properties in the same segment can have different guest expectations, room rates, laundry systems and replacement budgets.

Start with operating conditions

Document wash temperature, chemicals, drying method, ironing equipment, cycles per item and acceptable shrinkage. These conditions influence fiber, construction and finishing choices.

Define the guest-facing standard

Describe the desired hand, visual brightness, sheen, drape, pillow feel, towel absorbency and room presentation. Translate subjective words such as soft or luxury into approved physical samples.

Build a measurable specification

Include fiber composition, construction, finished dimensions, tolerances, weight where relevant, color, stitching, closures, labels, packing and inspection criteria. Add a laundering test to the approval process.

Evaluate lifecycle value

Unit price is only one cost. Consider rejection rate, shrinkage, energy and finishing effort, replacement frequency, storage complexity and the ability to reorder a consistent standard.

A good supplier conversation connects the guest promise to daily operations. Share both sides of the requirement before asking for a quotation.
